Radar Hill Fun Day at Shawnigan Lake
Est. reading time 1 minute
A huge shoutout to our host, Ken at Cadillac Ski School. Ken might be one of the best water ski instructors in the world. His technique is calm, precise and encouraging – giving beginners only a couple of things to think about as they build skill in a new activity. This year, two 13 year old girls got up first time with the bar, got up first time with the short rope and got up first time on the long tow – total success! Each step of the way, our hero Ken enthusiastically coached them on the technique that would build their confidence for their progression to skiing behind the boat on the long tow.
On the Water: SUP, Skiing, and Tubing
We got on the lake early and some went for a quick swim or paddleboard on the calm water before the boat was fired up for the high speed stuff.
- Water Skiing: Thanks to Ken’s coaching, everyone put in some solid runs – so much fun!
- Tubing: Always a crowd favourite. The tube made plenty of runs across the lake, delivering high-speed turns and a few big wipeouts into the lake. Dan’s son was at a day camp across the lake and we made a special run to give him a turn in the tube. His friends were jealous and his smile was ear to ear.
The Cookout
After a few hours on the lake, we fired up the grill to feed the crew. We kept the menu simple and traditional:
- Hot dogs and hamburgers with all the fixings
- Homemade potato salads, chips, snacks, and cold drinks brought by the family
Great Catching Up
At its core, the day is all about taking a break and spending quality time with the extended Radar Hill family. Between boat runs, everyone hung out on the shoreline, cheered on the skiers, and caught up on the beach.
Big thanks again to Ken and Cadillac Ski School for hosting us. Looking forward to the next one!
